ME FIRST RESPITE CARE​​

IF YOU ARE A VETERAN, SPOUSE OR SURVIVING SPOUSE OF A VETERAN, YOU COULD QUALIFY FOR UP TO $3,649 PER MONTH TO BE USED ON PERSONAL CARE SERVICES.

 

Most veterans, spouse or surviving spouses of veterans are not aware of this benefit available through the Veterans Administration.  This benefit can provide up to $3,649 per month for Veteran, spouse or surviving spouse to be used to pay for personal care services. These services will help them remain at home, independently and safe as possible. Surviving spouses may qualify regardless of how long ago you became a widow(er).

 

 

HOW DO I QUALIFY?

1.  This benefit is for Veterans, spouses or surviving spouses of veterans aged 65 years or older.
2.  Veteran must have served at least 1 day of ACTIVE DUTY (national guard or reserves are not included) during these times of war: (WW II: Dec. 1941-Dec. 1946, Korean War: June 1950-Jan. 1955, Vietnam War: Feb. 1961-Aug. 1964 (if served in Vietnam); Sept 1964-May 1975 (in or outside of Vietnam); Gulf War: 1990-Present
3.  Surviving spouse must have been married to the Veteran at the time of the Veteran’s death
4.  The veteran/surviving spouse must meet certain assets and income limits and need help on a regular basis even if minimum assistance is needed to stay independent at home by receiving personal care services.
5. Personal care services are often the kind of in-home assistance needed to allow seniors to avoid moving into a facility. These services can include assistance with daily living (ADLs) like eating, bathing, dressing, and continence care. It also can include additional services like light housekeeping, taking out the trash, laundry, light meal preparation, accompanying to doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, medication reminders and more.
